The big reveal for the week of June 22/09

Good morning and how about the first week of summer? Wow it went from spring to mid-summer in a few days, yikes it's been hot. I don't mind, I like the weather and I enjoy the sunshine too.

I can't believe that I had no guesses this week. I had one person comment on the blog that he enjoyed the song, but no guesses? Oh well I better go to some easier songs for next week.

Here are the answers:

The name of the song: In the Summertime
The writer:Ray Dorset
The name of the band: Mungo Jerry

Here is an earlier "video" for the song:

Have a great weekend. Mine started at about 5:30 p.m. on Thursday so I'm already there. I'm heading to Toronto to enjoy the boys of summer with my boy tonight, go Jays!

"Our fear of death is like our fear that summer will be short, but when we have had our swing of pleasure, our fill of fruit and our swelter of heat, we say we have had our day"

I've been listening to this song all week now, and looking for a proper lyric sheet on the net, but there isn't one! Every lyric posted anywhere for this song is incorrect, (and some are a lot more wrong than others) ...

So here, for your dining and dancing pleasure ...

~~~~~
[1] In the summertime when the weather is high
You can stretch right up and touch the sky
When the weather is fine
you got women you got women on your mind
Have a drink, have a drive
go out and see what you can find
[2] If her daddy's rich, take her out for a meal
If her daddy's poor, just do what you feel
Cruise along the lane
do a ton or a ton and twenty-five
When the sun goes down
you can make it, make it good, in a lay-by
[3] We're no threat, people
We're not dirty, we're not mean
We love everybody
But we do as we please
When the weather is fine
We go fishin' or go sailin' in the sea
We're always happy
Life's for livin', yeah that's our philosophy
[4] Sing along with us, dee dee dee dee dee
Dah dah dah dah dah, yeah, we're hap-happy
Dah doo dah dee dah doo dee dah dah...
[5] When the winter's here, yeah it's party time
Bring a bottle, wear your bright clothes, it'll soon be summer time
And we'll sing again
We'll go drivin' or maybe we'll settle down
If she's rich, if she's nice,
bring your friends and we'll all go into town
[repeat the first 4 verses]
You're welcome. ;-)
I've also watched all the "Mungo Jerry / In The Summertime" videos on YouTube and read the comments on them. My favorite comment was from an English guy who said (paraphrasing):
"I first heard this song on a compilation disk we got in England. It was the first track on the disk, and we drove all the way to France with the CD player on "Repeat". We never listened to any of the other songs!"
